Good and bad news for “Star Wars” fans: “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi” will be released two days later on Disney Plus, but there are also two episodes to start with. Then it continues on a weekly basis.
Disney embraces the competition: As Ewan McGregor himself announced in a video message, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will be released on Disney+ two days later. The new start date is therefore May 27, 2022, a Friday.
Normally, original series and films on Disney+ are now always released on a Wednesday, and in fact “Obi-Wan” then continues on Wednesdays and on a weekly basis. As a result, Disney provides double competition, because on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, the new MCU series “Ms. Marvel” on Disney+.
“Obi-Wan” has six episodes, so for three weeks Disney+ is going with “Ms. Marvel” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” itself competition on Wednesdays, rather than Obi-Wan Kenobi making way for the young superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) like a true Jedi master and gentleman. And that’s not all:
Also, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi now launches on May 27 against another big and much-anticipated series: Stranger Things Season 5 on Netflix. We don’t really understand the reason for the postponement, because the Jedi master has twice as much competition. Maybe you want to attract a lot of people with a start on Friday?
And the good news?
In the headline, we also promised you good news and of course we don’t want to withhold it: At the start of “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi” there will be two episodes on Disney Plus. Episode 3 should then be released on June 1st and the other episodes will then be released every week as usual.
The Storyline of “Star Wars: Obi-Wan”
Set approximately ten years after Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi features an Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) watching over young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) in exile on Tatooine.
But Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen), with the help of his inquisitors, continues to hunt down Jedi all over the galaxy and so Obi-Wan soon finds himself on a confrontation course with his former student and friend and is forced to leave his self-imposed exile.
