Six before after “Without limits”, “Star Trek 4” has still not started filming. Production is not progressing and it is therefore no surprise that the film has been removed from Paramount’s schedule.
The rebirth of a great saga
Thanks to JJ Abrams, the universe of Star Trek was entitled to quite a facelift. In 2009, the filmmaker relaunched the franchise with a first film carried by Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, and Zachary Quinto as Spock. We then discover the first mission of the famous character, known for being the captain of the USS Enterprise. But in the film, he’s still a headstrong freshman from Starfleet Academy. An attack on the planet Vulcan will nevertheless lead him to board the ship to face the terrible Nero, played by Eric Bana.

The machine relaunched, JJ Abrams confirms the return to the forefront of Star Trek with Into Darkness in 2013, which manages, as for its predecessor, to achieve a solid score at the box office. Enough for Paramount to develop a third feature film, Star Trek : Without limits (2016)led this time by Justin Lin.
bad news for Star Trek 4
We thought for a long time that the adventure was going to end there for Chris Pine and that we would never see Star Trek 4. It must be said that the project was wandered around without anything concrete being done. Quentin Tarantino has even been the subject of rumors. But finally, JJ Abrams finally gave good news at the beginning of the year. The filmmaker has confirmed the production of the fourth opuswith a start of filming scheduled for 2022. So we believed in it, until then-associate director Matt Shakman left the project a month ago.

And it’s not getting better today because Variety just announced that Star Trek 4 had simply disappeared from Paramount’s release schedule. The film was scheduled for December 22, 2023 in the United States. It is therefore without great surprise that the studio has decided to withdraw this date since nothing has really advanced. A decision reminiscent of Disney’s decision to postpone the film Star Wars by Patty Jenkins Rogue Squadron.
The American media specifies that the stars of the franchise had not yet been confirmed when JJ Abrams announced the development of this new film. Paramount then had little time to block everyone’s schedules. Thus, even if Star Trek 4 is not officially canceledand that this postponement is logical, it is difficult to hope for much for the future of the saga.
