Squid Game, a Korean series that nobody expected, may well surprise by becoming the most watched program on Netflix – beating the behemoths Bridgerton and La Casa de Papel in the process.
It’s impossible to miss the phenomenon Squid Game, the Korean series from Netflix that everyone is talking about right now. Launched on the platform on September 17, it benefited from word of mouth and effective communication from the American giant. It is at the top of the most watched programs in no less than 80 countries.
A result impressive enough to make some industry professionals say that Squid Game could become THE most watched program on Netflix, beating La Chronique des Bridgerton and La Casa de Papel (in the category of non-English series for the latter). For comparison, the first was seen by 82 million households in the month following its release.
Ted Sarandos, SEO Netflix, wants to be optimistic on this side. During a conference given on September 27, he said unequivocally: “Squid Game could become our most watched series if audiences hold up“. We will have to wait another two short weeks before knowing if it will beat the record because, as a reminder, Netflix is based on data spread over 28 days.
