Available on Netflix, “Squid Game” is the phenomenon of the moment. As cruel as it is entertaining, it stages a deadly game with, as a reward, a large sum of money. But what is it worth in euros?

For the past two weeks, it has been difficult to miss the Squid Game phenomenon. South Korean drama, ranked number one on Netflix, has taken the world by surprise. To mark the occasion, the platform even opened a pop-up store in Paris on October 2 and 3. The address, widely distributed on social networks, gathered thousands of curious people.
In this dystopian series of 9 episodes, 456 people crumbling under debt participate in a deadly competition. The principle ? Come out alive from a series of events inspired by children’s games. The winner takes home 45.6 billion South Korean won. This amount corresponds to the total number of participants, which is estimated to be worth 100 million won per person, or only 72,677 euros.
This adds to the cynicism of the series: the organizers of the deadly game not only put a price on a life, but in addition it is much lower than the debts of the participants. In the first episode, when the debts of the participants are revealed, they amount to several hundred million won, or even several billion for some.
As for the main pot, still in euros, it amounts to no less than 33,127,004 euros. A figure less impressive than the billions announced before the conversion of course, but which will allow the winner to easily get out of poverty. On the condition, of course, of getting out of the game alive.
