A giant doll bearing the image of the “Squid Game” series exhibited in a shopping center in Manchester has created controversy across the Channel.
When reality catches up with fiction … A shopping center sought to surf on the global success of Squid Game by exhibiting in its enclosure a giant statue with the effigy of the doll taken from the game “1,2,3 soleil” (episode 1 ) from the Netflix series. A daring advertising campaign, which very quickly turned into a totally catastrophic marketing concept …
Many parents have indeed expressed their dissatisfaction that a reference to such a violent series could be posted in a place frequented by families, and therefore children. Recall that the series was the subject of heated controversy, children having reproduced some of the games of Squid Game in their playground.
“My two children can read, and there is no doubt that after reading these panels, they will be more interested in this series than before” commented a furious mother interviewed by our colleagues from Manchester Evening News.
The controversy comes a few days after this Mancunian shopping center announced the end of the traditional installation of the Christmas tree. “Are they getting rid of the tree and putting this thing in its place?” another mother was indignant.
