The phenomenon Squid Game
In a few days, Squid Game became a huge hit for Netflix. The Korean series is a hit the world over and is now a phenomenon. A craze that is not unlike that for La casa de papel. Except that Squid Game did even better being seen by 111 million spectators in just 17 days, thus beating a historic record for the streaming platform. For those who haven’t watched yet, the story follows people in debt who face off in deadly games for the hope of winning a significant amount of cash. An unofficial game
In front of the box of the Netflix series, a smart kid wanted to take the opportunity to develop an unofficial video game totally inspired by Squid Game. Entitled Crab Game, his game reproduces the universe and the trials of the series. With an avatar dressed as in the series, we can thus play in multiplayer for example to the “One, two, three, mortal sun” which marked the spirits of the spectators, as well as to other mini-games. In a totally absurd and offbeat making of, developer Dani explains that the hype for Squid Game might not last. So he had to create his game as quickly as possible. He succeeded in just two weeks.
The most interesting in this making of is to see the ease with which Dani manages to progress step by step in the development of the game. Using free animations or development tools provided by Steam. It is besides on the video game platform that Crab Game is available. Obviously, the primary quality of this game is not its design. It is above all a question of offering effective entertainment with little means by surfing the trend of Squid Game. This proposal from Dani seems in any case to have convinced many players. According to Polygon, Crab Game has already attracted over 30,000 simultaneous players on Steam, and over 20,000 viewers on Twitch.
