Sam Fisher has been taunting his fans for years. After cameos, mobile and VR projects and before a television series, Ubisoft’s marine commando could finally return to base.
According to VideoGamesChronicle, Ubisoft would have finally given the green light for the production of a new Splinter Cell episode. Tom Henderson mentions several sources close to development, having hinted that the initiative aims to alleviate fan frustration. Indeed, the last “premium” game of the Ubi infiltration series dates from 2013. Since Splinter Cell Blacklist on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, it is dead calm.
Time to step out of the shadows?
According to Henderson’s indiscretions, the project is only in its infancy, but an announcement in 2022, for the 20 years of the license, is possible. The studio in charge would not be the one in Montreal. We always take care to handle these rumors with the necessary tweezers, but we will remember that Henderson’s little finger has hit the nail on the head more than once in the past. It will be recalled, however, that the supposed returns have been numerous in recent years. The Italian voice of Sam Fisher, hero of the saga, had teased more than once, without anything at the end of the hook …
For 8 years, the top secret agent dubbed with us by David Beretta has made a few appearances in different titles. Cameos, suggestions, parodies. But he was not entitled to the resurrection promised by Yves Guillemot almost every year. Afterwards, perhaps the building site was launched. And that we had to deal with a major problem. Ubisoft “lost” the creative director of Splinter Cell, Maxime Beland, in 2020. The latter had resigned following accusations of harassment raised in a Liberation investigation.
For now, we know that Splinter Cell will return to VR on Oculus, thanks to Red Storm Entertainment, and that a series is being prepared on the Netflix side. The kind of thing that would allow a little bit of talk about a name that might, despite everything, have been slightly forgotten.
