As “Spider-Man: No Way Home” hits theaters soon, Spider-Man Chief Producer Amy Pascal has just announced that a plan for three new films with Tom Holland in the role has been launched. on the side of Sony and Marvel.
Spiderman : the spider-man at the top of the cinema
Who sits at the top of superhero cinema? Who is the most admired, the most popular? We could think of the historical ones, Batman and Superman, each with a dedicated filmography and some excellent films. We can also think of Iron Man and Captain America, the leaders of the MCU’s Avengers who became planetary icons with the Marvel films. But the current trend seems to tilt the hearts of the public towards the famous Spider-Man, the spider-man both superhero and young man named Peter Parker. Indeed, since 2002 and the first film in Sam Raimi’s trilogy, Spider-Man has appeared in no less than 11 films. More speaking still, if we remove the Captain America: Civil War and the last two Avengers, the superhero has 8 solo films to date to tell about his adventures.
First, there are the three films of Sam Raimi with Tobey Maguire (2002, 2004 and 2007). Then in 2012 and 2014, it was Andrew Garfield who put on the tights in front of Marc Webb’s camera for two films. Finally, in its current version, it is Tom Holland who has been weaving his web for Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). This year he concludes the trilogy directed by Jon Watts with Spider-Man: No Way Home.
After No Way Home, Amy Pascal talks about a new trilogy
In addition to these 8 films dedicated to the superhero, we must also add the very successful animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse released in 2018. The superhero is therefore over-represented in cinema, and it doesn’t seem like it has to stop. Indeed, asked by Fandango about the future of Spider-Man, Spider-Man film producer since 2017 Amy Pascal said:
No Way Home isn’t the last movie we’re making with Marvel – it’s not the last Spider-Man. We’re getting ready for the next one with Tom Holland and Marvel … we’re designing these latest movies as a trilogy, and now we’re going to get into the next three. This isn’t the last of our MCU movies at all.
Tom Holland fans can therefore be delighted. Not only, with the opening of the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home we should be able to find several Spider-Men and see other returns – including supervillains -, imagine finding the superhero in other MCU productions, but so it will be the subject of a new trilogy, still embodied by Tom Holland! The opportunity to see the character grow and wear the costume to a more adulthood. Will Peter Parker become a dad? Will these upcoming films be darker? The bets are open !
