“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is currently in French cinemas. The long-awaited reunion staged by Jon Watts has finally taken place. And like every Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, the feature concludes with two post-credits scenes. Focus on the first.
Spider-Man: No Way Home – villains everywhere
Obviously, this article is reserved for the public who have already seen Spider-Man: No Way Home (or readers wishing to spoil themselves). Like any self-respecting Marvel movie, the latest Spiderman, at two post-credits scenes to offer us. Here, we focus on the first. For those who have not followed the promotion of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts’ film brings back an impressive number of supervillains. Jamie Foxx as Elektro, Alfred Molina as Dr Octopus, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Thomas Haden Church as Sandman and Rhys Ifans as Lizard. They are all there to make the spider-man drool. However, there is a sizeable absence in the feature film.
Focus on the first post-credits scene
And this absent obviously concerns the mighty venom. This last announced his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home at the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage. However, we can look in every corner of the film, the famous symbiote does not appear. He is mentioned towards the end of the film, but nothing more. We must then wait the first post-credits scene to see Tom Hardy land in the shoes of the terrible Venom. This first post-credits scene follows that of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, where the famous Spidey antagonist found himself teleported to another reality, that of the MCU.
A change of scenery that did not really disturb Eddie Brock since the journalist continues to wipe himself off with alcohol, leaning on a bar, on a paradisiacal beach. This post-generic sequence makes directly following that of Andy Serkis’ film, and thus gives an explanation concerning this mysterious teleportation. Ultimately, Eddie Brock and Venom don’t care much about Spider-Man, his enemies, and the destruction of the multiverse. Preferring to stay away from it all, to sip one more margarita.
What consequences for the MCU?
If this sequence fits in with the tone and style of the films Venom, nevertheless it teaches us something. At the end of this famous post-credits sequence, after some nauseating valves of the duo, Venom and his host are sent back to their own reality. However, Gooey piece of Venom remains in the MCU universe. An unexpected situation, since this could manifest itself in the future by a duplication of the character.
The sequence thus suggests that two Venoms will evolve simultaneously, in two distinct universes. One could stay in the Sony Universe (Venom, Morbius, etc …) while another could join the MCU. So a question to ask. Will Tom Hardy embody these two Venoms in these two distinct realities? Where is another actor going to take on the role of Venom in the MCU? Or last option, will the two Venoms come together in the future to become one? Maybe this forgotten piece of Venom in the Spider-Man universe will grow Eddie Brock to return to the MCU to get his due, and become one again. So many possibilities that will be studied and exploited, both in Venom 3, but also in the next trilogy Spiderman with Tom Holland!
Spider-Man: No Way Home is to see at the cinema December 15, 2021.
