If in the comics, Venom and Spider-Man are intimately linked, Tom Hardy, who plays the first in the cinema, has not yet had the opportunity to meet Tom Holland on the screen. Something the actor would like to change.
In 2007, the third film by Sam Raimi dedicated to Spider-Man was released in which Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) crossed paths with Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) alias Venom. But since Spider-Man 3, the characters haven’t been reunited on the big screen despite both having new faces: Tom Holland and Tom Hardy.
During an interview with Esquire, the one who will take over the role of Venom in a second episode entitled Let There Be Carnage expected in theaters on October 20, spoke of his desire to share scenes with the interpreter of Spider-Man.
“I would be remiss if I didn’t try to spur some form of connectivity. I wouldn’t do a good job if I wasn’t awake and open to any opportunity or eventuality or if I wasn’t excited about it“, assured Tom Hardy about a possible cross-over.
The actor is nevertheless aware that such a film would require Sony and Disney studios to finalize a new agreement, after the one concerning the use of the character of Tom Holland. Which doesn’t seem like an easy task.
AN OPTIMIST ACTOR
“Obviously this is a big leap to take, especially taking it by a single person, and it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence to sit down and discuss tackling a project like that one“, he admitted before declaring optimistically:
If both parties are willing to do it and it is beneficial to both parties, I don’t see why it couldn’t be done.
Not only completely ready for a crossover, Tom Hardy seems to have already discussed this possibility in high places since he also affirmed: “I hope and push strongly and passionately, with both hands, towards this potential. I would do anything to make this happen, within the limits of what is right in business.”
And to conclude: “But it would be silly not to head to the Olympics if you run the 100m, so yes! I want to play on this ground.“
One more thing to hope is that this fiery statement in favor of a meeting between Spider-Man, whose next adventure will be released on December 15, and Venom as part of a connected universe convinces the producers!
