American viewers have answered Spider-Man’s call for “No Way Home” to sign the second-best first day of all time at the American box office.
Unheard of since the Avengers Endgame tidal wave. On its first day in US theaters, Spider-Man: No Way Home brought audiences back to theaters with a record-breaking start, the second-highest cumulative in history for a first day at the US box office.
Tom Holland grabbed $ 121.5 million in his web on Friday, December 17, 2021, better than The force awakens, Infinity war Where The Last Jedi.
It is also – obviously – a record since the start of the pandemic, ahead of Black Widow’s $ 39 million on July 9 for its first day.
The superhero is now aiming for the $ 257M of Infinity war in three days and will try to get closer to the $ 357M of Endgame, a priori untouchable.
Spider-Man: The Crazy First Reactions In Theaters For No Way Home!
In a year when the American box office suffered once again, marked in particular by the failures of Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott or M. Night Shyamalan and the half-hearted performances of Dune, Fast 9 or Dying can wait, this craze puts a smile on the face of the industry.
It nevertheless draws a cinematic landscape dominated by Marvel (which will place five films in the annual Top 6: No Way Home, Shang-Chi, Venom 2, Black widow, The Eternals) and franchises (only Free Guy and Encanto will emerge as original works in the annual Top 20).
