After 10 years of “hiatus”, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine returns with a sequel, just announced for the Game Awards 2021. Here’s what to remember.
The Game Awards ceremony was the opportunity to unveil many games including a certain Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. A project between Saber Interactive to whom we owe in particular World War Z and Focus Home Interactive. At the time, in 2011, Relic Entertainment was in charge of the project.
In the breastplate of a Space Marine
The game will always be a single player / multiplayer TPS. The solo part will allow us to play as Captain Titus to face infamous hordes of tyranids. Matthew Karch, President of Saber Interactive explains:
Space Marine is one of the most successful TPS of all time. His influence has been felt in almost every shoot of the past ten years. This is an incredible opportunity for the Saber teams to create a true AAA game, drawing on more than two decades of experience on prestigious licenses such as Halo, Quake, and World War Z. Space Marine 2 is the most ambitious project in our history, and we are convinced that upon its release, it will become a video game classic.
Jon Gillard, International Licensing Manager of Games Workshop adds:
This is the most requested Warhammer sequel! It is therefore with great pleasure that we can finally meet the demand of the players, by revealing to them a foretaste of the project on which talented teams have been working in secret for several years. Once again, players can take on the role of an all-powerful Space Marine, and we think they’ll love it!
A good aura for the first Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
The least we can say is that the Saber studio is showing some confidence, and we hope for them that everything will go as planned. It is true that the game has benefited from a certain aura, especially after the fact. On Steam the title also has a lot of praise in the comments with very positive opinions.
For the moment there is no release date but the game is planned for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
