While the eyes of thrill-seekers are mostly on FromSoftware’s next game, Round8’s studio reminds us that it will soon be tackling the king of Souls-like genre with the surprising Lies of P.
Last spring, the Koreans lifted the veil on a title as unexpected as it was original: Lies of P, a hardcore action-RPG like the north (of Italy), which intends to replay the well-known story of Pinocchio in the ruthless universe of the Belle Époque, somewhere between American McGee’s Alice and Dante’s Inferno.

The first trailer unveiled in the wake made it possible to discover the icy atmosphere of the city which will welcome the brave puppeteer Geppetto, but still ignored the gameplay of this new Souls-like in power. This omission is now a thing of the past, since our colleagues fromIGN had the privilege of being able to unveil before everyone else the very first gameplay teaser of Lies of P. As if on purpose, you can find said video in our player above.
For two good minutes, we thus discover from behind the character of Pinocchio struggling with many Krat monsters, first presented as the “city of tomorrow”. Between the choirs, the dramatic orchestration and a weather that seems locked on storm mode, the atmosphere of dark fantasy is assured.
In the great Souls-like tradition, Pinocchio wields rapiers, double-edged axes and even an obviously practical grappling hook to bring opponents perched on the roofs of a Haussmann-inspired city to him.
These few extracts also reveal some magical powers that complete a parallel between Lies of P and the games from the studio FromSoftware, which continues to make the news with the highly anticipated Elden Ring. For its part, the release of Lies of P is currently announced in 2023 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X (yes, X only).
