Almost eight years ago we reported on “The Good Nurse” for the first time. Back then, Black Swan and Requiem For A Dream maestro Darren Aronofsky was slated to direct the true-crime drama. But then it became very quiet about the project for a long time. It wasn’t until four years later that we heard something again – this time much more concrete news.
With the Dane Tobias Lindholm, the mastermind behind the strong “A War”, not only a new director was announced at the time. A screenwriter was also on board in Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Oscar nominee for “1917”) and the stars of the film were also introduced: Eddie Redmayne from theHarry Potter’ creator JK Rowling created the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series and Jessica Chastain (‘Interstellar”, “IT Chapter 2”).
Still, nothing worth mentioning happened. It was not until spring 2020 that it was announced that Netflix had secured the rights to the film, which has not yet been shot, for an alleged $25 million. Apparently, despite the star cast, this cash injection was urgently needed so that Lindholm could finally get started in April 2021 with the help of chief cameraman Jody Lee Lipes (“Manchester By The Sea”). In other parts, Kim Dickens (“Gone Girl”), Noah Emmerich (“The Truman Show”) and ex-football pro Nnamdi Asomugha (“Harriet”) stood in front of his work equipment. The top-class project is no longer coming to the cinema as originally planned, but to the Netflix streaming service – and very soon.
The project is now complete. The film celebrated its world premiere on September 11, 2022 as part of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). On October 26, 2022, “The Good Nurse” will start worldwide and exclusively on the Netflix streaming service.
If you want to while the waiting time until the streaming starts by reading Charles Graeber’s non-fiction book template “The Good Nurse: A True Story Of Medicine, Madness, And Murder”, you will find what you are looking for at online retailers such as Amazon. The volume is available in print and as a Kindle version – but only in the English-language original:

Dedicated nurse and single mother Amy Loughren (Jessica Chastain) is battling a life-threatening heart condition. During the hard and demanding night shifts in the intensive care unit of her clinic, she repeatedly comes up against her physical and emotional limits.
Then their bosses finally hire Charlie Cullen (Eddie Redmayne), an apparently very competent, attentive and empathetic nurse, to relieve them. As they spend the long nights in the hospital together, a warm friendship develops between the two.
Amy trusts her colleague completely and has no problem with the fact that he helps her from time to time with the care of her small children. But then a series of mysterious deaths among patients at the hospital sparks a police investigation that points to Charlie as the prime suspect. Could she have been so wrong about him?
