From 2008 to 2014, Charlie Hunnam starred in 92 episodes of the acclaimed biker series Sons Of Anarchy, which you can currently stream with a Disney Plus subscription. He played Jax Teller for seven seasons and got involved in gang wars, had to protect his family and increasingly struggled with the mentality of his violent club. Always by his side: his motorcycle.
In “Shantaram”, Charlie Hunnam, who is also known from Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” or “The Genetlemen” by Guy Ritchie, now takes on the leading role in a new series. This will be released worldwide on October 14th on Apple TV+. We’ll have to wait a little longer until the first trailer comes out, but the first picture of the series brings back pleasant memories: Charlie Hunnam is once again sitting on a motorcycle – albeit without a cowl.
Shantaram is based on Gregory David’s bestselling novel of the same name, which is a gripping love story. The focus is on Lin Ford (Charlie Hannam), who disappears in the pulsating, feverish and completely chaotic Bombay of the 1980s. Alone in the unfamiliar city, he tries to avoid his old problems and learns to come to terms with himself.
But soon he meets the enigmatic and fascinating Karla (Antonia Desplat) – and falls head over heels in love with her. Lin soon has to decide which path he wants to take: that of freedom or that of love. But no matter what decision he makes, he ultimately cannot escape the complications of the present and the demons of the past without confrontation…
In addition to Charlie Hunnam and Antonia Desplat, the ensemble also includes Shubham Saraf, Elektra Kilbey, Fayssal Bazzi and Gabrielle Scharnitzky. The staging of the series has Bharat Nalluri (“Spooks – traitors in their own ranks”) taken over, who also serves as an executive producer. Shantaram will be released on October 14, 22 direct to AppleTV+ subscription.
