If the Game Awards ceremony certainly had its share of surprises, porcupine fans knew that they could finally discover Sonic Frontiers, the anniversary episode of the mascot of SEGA.

A long awaited under the name of Sonic Rangers, the episode which was to come to celebrate the 30 years of the famous hedgehog took advantage of the Game Awards 2021 to finally make the presentations. It is with a first trailer emphasizing the opening of his universe that Sonic Frontiers officially made the presentations, not without giving us an appointment at the end of the year 2022.

Sonic, the final frontier

The players who followed closely the news of this new episode knew that it was to be expected “an advance” in the gameplay of the license, and it is therefore on the principle of open world open areas that Sonic Frontiers intends to inject a bit of novelty in a 30-year-old series.

While our hedgehog tries to escape damn robots, a priori ill-intentioned, a mysterious voice allows him to come out of the woods, and to discover the universe in which Sonic Frontiers will take place: the Starfall Islands. This first open-world episode is obviously the pride of producer Takashi Iizuka, who still takes the risk of using a really jaw-dropping formula in the ruthless world of video games:

Sonic Frontiers represents a huge step forward for the license, delivering a gaming experience that will be enjoyed by long-time gamers as well as adventure and action enthusiasts.. Thanks to the efforts of the talented developer team at Sonic Team Japan, we’ve created a whole new style of gameplay for our hedgehog. This will allow players to explore rich and varied landscapes while enjoying Sonic’s abilities and super speed. Many twists and turns will await players around every corner of Sonic Frontiers and we look forward to unveiling more information about the game in the coming months..

Sonic Frontiers is now expected for the end of 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series.
