At the end of sonic the movie, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) finds himself stranded on a desolate planet covered in fungi. At the beginning of sonic 2the spectators find the famous antagonist, a year later, still stuck on this inhospitable planet. This disturbing world covered in mushrooms is a reference at the first level of the game sonic 3which takes place on the Mushroom Hill Zone.
