Colombian cocaine queen Griselda Blanco comes to Netflix in a performance by Sofia Vergara. The “Modern Family” star is co-starring and producing the mini-series “Griselda” directed by “Narcos” showrunner Eric Newman as part of a general deal with the streaming platform. In our first look at Netflix’s “Griselda” series, we see Vergara’s transformation into Blanco.
According to the series’ official release, “Griselda” is inspired by the savvy and ambitious Colombian businessperson Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. A devoted mother, Blanco’s deadly mix of charm and unexpected savagery helped her deftly navigate family and work, leading her to be widely known as the ‘Godmother’.
The project, for which Vergara has the title Griselda, has been in development for eight years at Latin World Entertainment. Colombian native Andrés Baiz will direct all six episodes of the limited drama and will also serve as executive producer along with co-producers and writers Ingrid Escajeda and Doug Miro. Commenting on her upcoming role, Vergara said: “Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character, her brutal yet ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion-dollar empire years before most of the other notorious kings we know so much about.”
Also in the cast are Alberto Guerra (“Narcos: Mexico”), Vanessa Ferlito (“NCIS: New Orleans”), Alberto Ammann (“Narcos”), Christian Tappan (“The Great Heist”), Diego Trujillo (“Metastasis”) , Paulina Davila (“Luis Miguel”), Gabriel Sloyer (“Narcos”), Juliana Aidén Martinez (“Black List”), Martin Rodriguez (“Detrás de la verdad”) and José Zúñiga (“American Crime Story, Versace”) is located.
