Disney responded to the harsh criticism of the famous actor about the Snow White movie.
Emmy winner Peter Dinklage, who plays the character of Tyrion Lannister in the Game of Thrones series, made controversial statements about Disney’s live-action Snow White on the Marc Maron podcast “WTF”, which he recently participated in.
Disney is preparing to bring the classic 1937 animation “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” to life, this time in live-action with actors such as Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap. “I was stunned to see that they were proud to have chosen a Latino actress to play Snow White. You’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and see what you’ve done. It makes no sense to me,” Dinklage said on the podcast he attended. On the one hand, you’re progressive, but on the other hand, you’re still telling a totally reactionary story where 7 dwarves live together in a cave, what the hell are you doing?”
Dinklage added, “Have I never been able to move the cause forward by preaching my strong feelings? I guess my voice isn’t loud enough. I don’t know which studio, but they were very proud of it. Love and respect to the actress and anyone who thinks she’s doing the right thing. But I just said, ‘What are you doing?’ I can say.” she continued.
It wasn’t long before Disney responded to Peter Dinklage’s words. A spokesperson from the studio Deadline The movie will not be an adaptation of the classic Snow White story, he told. “We’re taking a different approach with these seven characters and consulting with members of the dwarfism community to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film,” Disney said in a statement. “We look forward to sharing more as the film goes into production after a long development period.”
The seven dwarfs appearing differently in the movie isn’t the only change Disney will make to the live-action Snow White movie. It was announced that Andrew Burnap, who was the last to join the cast of the film, will also portray an original character to be written for this movie, not Prince Charming or the Hunter. The film, which has not yet started shooting, is planned to be released in 2023.
