The developers of Silent Hill 2 Remake have justified their decision to forgo fixed camera angles.

Why a shoulder view on Silent Hill 2 Remake?

The success of Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake was the main motivation for Konami to produce Silent Hill 2 Remake. A confession from Christophe Gans, the director of the 2006 film SH, who had confirmed the existence of new games on several occasions.

And like the two games mentioned from Capcom, SH2 Remake has decided to modernize the game by abandoning the fixed cameras for a view on the shoulder. Why ? Bloober Team wants to impress players, but for that, the title had to evolve with today’s standards.

We want Silent Hill 2 to make the same strong impression today that the original game did 21 years ago. Although we want to achieve the same result, player expectations change over time. And some things need to be upgraded to have the same or similar effect. This is for example why we opted for the shoulder camera, in order to be able to immerse the player in the game world as much as possible.
