Universal Pictures, Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical new film “The FabelmansWritten by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Lincoln, Munich), the film is about a teenager growing up in Arizona who has a passion for filmmaking.
Growing up in post-WWII Arizona, a young man named Sammy Fabelman discovers a secret that has shaken his family and explores how the power of movies can help him see the truth. While Gabriel LeBelle gives life to the character of Sammy; Sammy’s mother, who is interested in art, is played by Michelle Williams, and her father, who is a scientist, is played by Paul Dano. Also in the cast is Seth Rogen as Uncle Bennie, who plays an important role in Sammy’s life. All the characters in the movie bear traces of Spielberg’s real family members.
At the weekend, the film debuted at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival and was lauded by critics. It is said that the film is already a strong candidate for the Best Picture Oscar.
