The mystery-horror series “Archive 81” has garnered a significant fan base since its debut on Netflix on January 14, and took its place as the #1 show on the entire streaming service a week later. This means that a significant number of viewers are definitely wondering: Will there be a second season? If there is one thing that Rebecca Sonnenshine, who is the head of the series and executive producer, wants, it is to be able to continue the series.
In an interview before the drama aired, Sonnenshine confirmed that “Archive 81” is not an anthology series, but the idea is to be able to decide in a second to continue the stories of Dan (Mamoudou Athie), Melody (Dina Shihabi), and others. Sonnanstine said, “The idea is that we’re going to continue with a new season with these characters if we’re very lucky to have a second season. It wasn’t intended as a one-season series. I think there’s more story to tell. I think we ended up with a good cliffhanger to tackle. Dan and Melody’ “We’re introducing a lot of characters surrounding the city with very rich and interesting lives to explore further. So yes, we hope to continue.” said.
Netflix has yet to officially order a second season. However, Sonnenshine and its authors are already brainstorming “Archive 81.” Sonnanstine said, “We would love to do a second season. We brainstormed. We have ideas. The writers are really excited to continue telling the story. We love our players, we love the world.” he added. Among the characters whose stories will continue in season two are the mysterious Virgil Davenport (Martin Donovan), who was last seen cloned on his head by Mark (Matt McGorry) and Melody’s mother.
Sonnanstine has confirmed that more of these two characters are coming, and stated that there are actually more stories planned for them that could not fit into the eight-episode first season. Another important question that needs to be answered in a potential second season: “Where is Samuel?” it will be. We will have to wait a while longer for the answers to all these questions.
