After a first opus released in 2009, Guy Ritchie returned two years later to direct “Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows”. A sequel as effective as the first opus. But did you know that a very great French actor was to appear in the film?
sherlock holmes : an appreciable saga
In 2009, Guy Ritchie takes on the Sherlock Holmes myth. Worn by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, his adaptation of sherlock holmes receives a rather warm reception from the spectators. reporting more than $524 million in box office receipts (for a budget of 90 million), Warner decides to produce a second opus.
Thus, in 2012, Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows see the day. The director and the main duo are back for a new adventure that is in perfect continuity with the first part. Again, the film is a success with more than $543 million in box office receipts. Warner was even supposed to start work on a third film, but the project was never really launched.

Whether Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows is more focused on action and a more explosive staging, the film also introduces the nemesis of our dear detective: Moriarty. Incarnated for the occasion by Jared Harris, the character creates a real opposition to our iconic duo. In addition to the latter and the two main actors, the rest of the cast also consists of Noomi Rapace, Rachel McAdams, Kelly Reilly, Eddie Marsan and the Peaky Blinder Paul Anderson.
Gilles Lellouche almost appeared in the 2nd film
A cast that could have been expanded with another great actor, French this time. Indeed, in November 2010, Gilles Lellouche declares on the set of Big Newspaper that it will appear in Sherlock Holmes 2: Shadow Game. Filming has just started in Great Britain, and must pass through Strasbourg. At the time, the actor did not specify the nature of his role. Then when the trailers start coming out, Gilles Lellouche is not on any image.

The mystery then seems to thicken. Finally, when the feature film comes out, there is no longer any trace of Gilles Lellouche in the final cut. But then what happened? Was it cut during editing? Did the actor laugh at us? In fact, he was simply ousted from the project. It was then necessary to wait until 2017 for Gilles Lellouche to come back to this affair at the microphone ofAlloCine :
I have been replaced. In fact they called me and they said to me: “So Gilles, the scenes we did together, will have to be turned over. There is a month of reshoots on the film, can you be with us next week, two days?”
Unfortunately for him, Gilles Lellouche was already monopolized by another shootthat of Thérèse Desqueyroux. The actor cannot then free himself. However, he specifies that the production of the film had promised to come back to him with a solution. Except that the Warner simply never called back:
Never had any news! And then I had the pleasant surprise to see that they had replaced me.
Gilles Lellouche did not specify the name of the actor who replaced him in Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows. And since we did not know his role, no one officially knows who succeeded the actor in the film. It prevents that Sherlock Holmes 2 employed other French actors. Indeed, Thierry Neuvic embodies a French anarchist (and is undoubtedly Gilles Lellouche’s replacement), while Alexandre and Victor Carril play Moriarty’s henchmen.
