Expected on September 1 in French theaters, “Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings” has just been premiered in Los Angeles. An event at the end of which the first opinions fell.
Shang-Chi, an Asian superhero
In its quest for diversity and renewal, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce its first Asian superhero in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. The feature film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton will resume the story of the character as it exists in the comics. Shang-Chi is the son of a criminal who hopes his offspring will someday work alongside him. After giving her some time to live her life, now is the time to remind her of her family obligations. But the son refuses to answer his father’s call and will have to face enemies who want to make him regret his choice. In addition to his skills for close combat, he will learn to tame powerful powers.
The central role was given to Simu Liu, while Tony Leung Chiu-Wai will play the Mandarin (the fake played by Ben Kingsley in Iron man 3 will also be back in the film) and that the endearing Awkwafina will be the hero’s best friend.
In addition to the original story, we are waiting to see how Shang-Chi will be able to fit into the extended universe and into a common project. The film lands on September 1st in our rooms, a few weeks after the arrival of Black widow. This new release should also escape a direct passage on Disney +.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings has just been shown in preview in the United States and, in the process, reviews have fallen. First of all, let’s say as usual that we must take them with a grain of salt because the first feedback on Marvel productions tends to be very enthusiastic. We see, again this time, a deluge of positive superlatives and words perhaps a little strong compared to the true quality of the film.
The first opinions have arrived
Shang-Chi is an absolute triumph, surprisingly witty and emotionally complex, with some of the best action scenes in the MCU. Simu Liu is your new favorite Avenger and the myriad of influences from the film (from Jackie Chan to Hayao Miyzaki) are paying off. Astonishing.
Shang-Chi is fantastic. It’s full of AMAZING and beautiful choreography in the fight scenes, and full of badass women. Be prepared to know Simu Liu’s name if you haven’t already. Marvel has a new hit on its hands.
Shang-Chi is awesome. This movie hits whatever Marvel does well (pace, humor, character) and adds action like we’ve never seen before in the MCU! A lot of people are on the cusp of having their favorite new Marvel hero. It’s darker than expected. We take a lot of fun. It’s built into Phase 4 of the MCU!
Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is PHENOMENAL. Be hyped. Every fight / action scene is better than the last. Simu Liu fully embraces the role of Marvel superheroes. The imagery is amazing. The soundtrack kills. You have to see this on the big screen.
Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings takes home the title of best superhero film of 2021 to date. The action scenes are simply spectacular, especially the train scene and the skyscraper scene. The best martial arts I have seen in a long time. Simu Liu and Awkwafina are great.
