Video game fans are currently experiencing ups and downs at Netflix. The series “Tekken: Bloodline” was recently launched, which is not only based on the popular fighting titles, but is also the responsibility of their longtime mastermind Katsuhiro Harada. Netflix also only recently pulled the plug on the highly anticipated “Resident Evil” series, which was ultimately not received too graciously by fans.
However, there is already a supply of series fodder based on a popular video game: “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” comes from the same company as the much-discussed game “Cyberpunk 2077”, which in turn is based on the “Cyberpunk” tabletop role-playing games. And in the series adaptation about the city of Night City, obsessed with body modifications, those responsible rolled particularly high numbers for blood spatter and escapades of violence…
The Far Future: The people of Night City are fascinated by all the possibilities of modern technology – especially anything that revolves around body modifications. He becomes an edge runner…
The production company behind this ten-part animated series is CD Projekt Red, the creative force behind “Cyberpunk 2077” and the “The Witcher”-Row. Rafal Jaki, who, among other things, participated in “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” and “Cyberpunk 2077′, serves as showrunner and executive producer. Work on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners began back in 2018, with anime veteran Hiroyuki Imaishi (“Promare”) directing.
The Japanese studio Trigger was hired as the animation studio, which among other things “Star Wars: Visions” left his mark and was responsible for “Little Witch Academia”. The screenplays are by Yoshiki Usa (“Promare”) and Masahiko Otsuka (“Star Wars: Visions”), while “Silent Hill” composer Akira Yamaoka contributed the score to the series.
