Marvel Studios boss and MCU mastermind Kevin Feige is known for planning the future of the gigantic comic universe for which he is responsible well in advance, after all, the majority of the numerous projects also build on one another. It is already clear, for example, that the current fourth phase of the series will be followed by at least a fifth and a sixth, which will be divided into two new “Avengers’ movies will culminate and all together form the so-called Multiverse saga.
But despite this meticulous planning, there are always changes, postponements and adjustments. The latest is the Armor Wars project, which will center on longtime Avenger Colonol James “Rhodey” Rhodes, aka War Machine (Don Cheadle). Already announced at the end of 2020 with many other titles as a six-part series, it has now been announced: “Armor Wars” will not be a Disney+ series after all, but a film for the big screen.

For “Armor Wars” Don Cheadle becomes War Machine again.
After numerous MCU appearances, War Machine gets its first solo cinema adventure. The industry journal reports The Hollywood Reporters. The brief justification given is that the studio noticed during the development process that the intended story could simply be told better in the form of a film.

Details about that story are still few and far between. However, the film’s title is borrowed from an arc from the ’80s Iron Man comics, in which Tony Stark’s advanced technology, which is also known to be in War Machine’s suit, falls into the wrong hands. We should probably expect something similar in the adaptation.
Despite the remodeling, nothing will change in the previously known personal details of the project. Don Cheadle, who has played Tony Stark’s best friend Rhodey since 2010’s Iron Man 2 (where he took over the role of Iron Man 1’s Rhodey Terrence Howard), returns to War Machine. Author and actor Yasser Lester (“Black Monday”) is also responsible for the screenplay. A director has not yet been announced.
However, it will probably still be a while before we see “Armor Wars”. There is still no information about the possible start, so it is not even clear in which of the upcoming MCU phases we can expect the film. We don’t have to wait that long until we see Don Cheadle as War Machine again. He also appears as a supporting character in the series “Secret Invasion”, in which Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) uncovers a huge alien conspiracy. The series will start in early 2023 on Disney +, there is already a trailer:
