The fantasy action comedy “RIPD” was a real letdown despite a star cast with Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon and Mary-Louise Parker. The film is bad, it only got 1.5 out of 5 possible stars in the DashFUN review, and the audience rightly berated “RIPD”: With a budget of 130 million US dollars, it only grossed 78 million worldwide .
And yet the mega flop has now got a sequel. Unsurprisingly, this is not coming to the cinema, but directly to the small screen – RIPD 2: Rise Of The Damned will be released on Netflix in the US on November 15, 2022, and is expected to be released on Blu-ray, DVD and VoD in the rest of the world. However, there is no date for Germany yet.

Not only was there no cinema release for the sequel, but also stars. Ryan Reynolds might be stopping by for one of his famous gag cameos – but otherwise you’ll have to settle for lesser-known names like Richard Fleeshman, who has just appeared in a few episodes of the Netflix series “The Sandman”, Jeffrey Donovan from a few episodes of ” Law & Order”, Jake Choi from the sitcom “Single Parents”, Kerry Knuppe (“Life Is Like a Country Song”) and Stephanie Levi-John (“The Spanish Princess”). Paul Leyden, who most recently directed Chick Fight, is directing.
And the content of the sequel shouldn’t have much in common with the first film either – the premise is the same, but the story is not continued. Once again, it’s about deceased former law enforcement officers who now work in the “Rest In Peace Department” to ensure that the living are not haunted by demons.
Set in the Wild West of 1876, Sheriff Roy Pulsipher (Jeffrey Donovan), who was killed in a shootout, is sent back to Earth by the RIPD to prevent the end of the world. That’s what threatens after a gate to hell was opened in the town of Red Creek. Actually, Pulsipher only wants to avenge his own death, but that will have to wait for now…
