An untitled streaming series for AppleTV+ is set to expand on the Monsterverse, but will not continue Godzilla vs. Kong. Instead, it takes a step back. In the series that is now also briefly circulating under the title “Godzilla And the Titans”. should be tied directly to the events of the MonsterVerse opener “Godzilla” from 2014. How did the appearance of monsters change the world? And what role does the secret organization Monarch really play?
Their presence should be very large in the series. Because now also indicate via Variety announced first information about the new characters and the cast. They also tell us that the series is probably playing mainly in Japan.
The lead role is played by Anna Sawai, best known for the AppleTV+ series “Pachinko’ and played a key role in cinema as Elle in ‘Fast & Furious 9’. In the new “Godzilla” series, she embodies the former teacher Cate, who survived the first appearance of the giant monsters, G-Day, in San Francisco. Now she is traveling to Japan to sort out some family matters. But there she stumbles upon secrets that her family is closely connected to. She sets out to find answers.

Acting newcomer Ren Watabe, who has mainly worked as a model so far, plays Kentaro, who Variety is described as an “intelligent, creative and curious man” who has not yet found his way in life. He sets out to find out more about his mysterious father.
Meanwhile, Joe Tippett, who most recently made an impression on the acclaimed HBO series Mare Of Easttown with Kate Winslet, is arguably playing a Monarch employee. His Tim is described as an “office drone” but dreams of secret agent adventures. His overconfidence causes him problems, but he is determined not to let his organization down.

We assume that Duvall, played by French actress Elisa Lasowski (“Versailles”), will work with Tim. Duvall appears to be a formidable field agent, possessing impressive skills and a wry sense of humor that she is described as guiding her less-trained field operatives.

The Godzilla series on Apple TV+ was created by Chris Black (Mad Men, Outcast) and comic book writer Matt Fraction, whose graphic novels served as inspiration for the Hawkeye MCU series. Black will also be the showrunner. Also on board is Matt Shakman. The “WandaVision” director is to stage the first two episodes and thus set the style. He will remain on the project as Executive Producer thereafter.
With the casting process now running at full speed, the start of shooting shouldn’t be far off. The series should then start in the course of 2023 on the AppleTV+ streaming service.
In the cinema, on the other hand, the sequel to “Godzilla vs. Kong” awaits us next. This one has just been scheduled: Godzilla vs. Kong 2 is slated to hit US theaters on March 15, 2024.
