The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to grow, with 28 films and seven series already released, with many more in production – and this now includes a series about “Wonder Man”. This isn’t just interesting because of the involvement of Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed some of the best MCU action scenes as the director of Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. But also, because the Wonder Man character in the comics has strong ties to Vision and Wanda aka Scarlet Witch.
Warning, there are spoilers for “WandaVision” and “Doctor Strange 2”!
The fate of both characters in the MCU is currently still quite open. The original vision (Paul Bettany) was translated into “Avengers: Infinity War” but in the MCU series “WandaVision” a new, white version of the character takes the stage, only to fly away in the finale. Nothing has been heard from White Vision (also Paul Bettany) since then.

Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), on the other hand, is just in “Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness” in German cinemas, where she, as the film’s villain, endangers the multiverse because she wants her children known from “WandaVision” back. At the end of the film, she seemingly sacrifices herself to make things right – but can a being as powerful as the Scarlet Witch really die?
The answer could be found in “Wonder Man”, because Simon Williams, Wonder Man’s real name, is closely linked to both characters. In the comics, Simon’s brainwaves were used to bring vision to life, so the two are considered brothers in spirit. And because Wonder Man is also in love with Wanda, there’s even a theory that this is where Vision’s feelings for her stem from.
Of course, this would all have to be done very differently in the MCU, after all, Wonder Man played no part in the creation of Vision, but a connection could certainly be made nonetheless.
Alternatively, you could go in a completely different direction with Wonder Man, after all In the comics, apart from his superhero identity, he’s something of a superstar who has made a career in Hollywood as a stuntman and action actor. So maybe Wonder Man could show a superhero making superhero movies – such a meta element would be a new approach for the MCU.
And then Wonder Man is one of the founding members of the West Coast Avengersas a superhero team from the comics based on the west coast of the USA – perhaps the series is also a sign that we will soon have more than one official Avengerssee the team in the MCU.
But all of this is still speculation. However, it is clear who will take care of “Wonder Man”: In addition to the one already mentioned Destin Daniel Crettonwho will produce the series and possibly direct one or more episodes, is Andrew Guest (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, “Community”) on board, who will serve as head writer and showrunner. This is reported by the US industry magazine The Hollywood Reporters.
Wonder Man is slated to begin filming in 2023, with the series set to release on Disney+ in 2024.
