A sketch film bringing together an impressive cast, “Selfie” delivered a very funny communication operation in the form of a fake conversation on WhatsApp. The result is hilarious.
selfie : a squeaky digital comedy
At the origin of the project selfie, there is the co-producer and co-screenwriter of the film Julien Sibony. Indeed, the latter wanted to be able to approach with humor and absurdity the society in which we live, watered by smartphones and social networks. He is therefore implementing a film with sketches which will be co-directed by Thomas Bidegain, Marc Fitoussi, Tristan Aurouet, Cyril Gelblat and Vianney Lebasque. The film is surrounded above all by a prestigious cast. Thus, we can find Blanche Gardin, Manu Payet, Max Boublil, Elsa Zylberstein, Finnegan Oldfield, Fanny Sidney and Michaël Abiteboul. You can even find journalists Augustin Trapenard and Cyrille Eldin there.
selfie therefore follows the independent stories of men and women totally addicted to new technologies. Whether in family, at work, at school or in romantic relationships, this digital addiction ends up breaking them.
A silly conversation
Who hasn’t been on a WhatsApp group that ended up completely going into a spin because of its members? To stay within the theme of the excesses of social networks, the team of selfie was therefore inspired by this kind of anecdotes to feed the promotion of the film. This is how in this fake group and this fake WhatsApp conversation, we find a large part of the cast of the film, including Manu Payet, Elsa Zylberstein, Max Boublil and Finnegan Oldfield. Manu Payet creates this fake group by adding several actors from the film. He then draws attention to the poster which he finds magnificent. Unfortunately for him, the atmosphere is rather dissipated. And as often happens in a WhatsApp group where there are several people, the initial conversation digresses very quickly.
Thus, between an Elsa Zylberstein who never ceases to brag about all the individual awards she has won during her career, Finnegan Oldfield who is in the wrong group by engaging in a conversation about football (before leaving) or a questioning on the absence of Blanche Gardin in the conversation (who would not have a smartphone), we say to ourselves that Manu Payet should have thought twice before creating this group.
