Neve Campbell announced her refusal to return to “Scream 6”. Her former colleague David Arquette, interpreter of Dewey, commented on the decision of the actress and supports her in her choice.
Scream : a sixth film without Sidney
If the return ofHalloween (2018) was a real success, the same cannot be said with Scream. Certainly, the fifth film of the famous saga has grossed over $140 million worldwide for an estimated budget of $24 million. But the quality of the film left something to be desired in our opinion. We discovered a sequel without much interest and quite heavy in its homage to Wes Craven, with new annoying characters and more idiotic than ever (see our review).

Even so, the sufficiently strong numbers encouraged Paramount to order a sixth film. A Scream 6 which will be worn again by Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera or Courteney Cox. But the most important name will be absent from the cast. It is obviously Neve Campbell, the interpreter of Sidney Prescott who tries to escape in each film from a new killer hidden under the mythical mask of Ghostface. The actress explained his refusal to return to this film because of the insufficient salary offered to him.
Dewey’s support
Even if he suffered a sad fate in the last Scream, David Arquette keeps an eye on the franchise and his interventions will certainly be listened to by fans of the saga. The actor was thus questioned by comic book on Neve Campbell’s decision not to return to Scream 6. If he would obviously have liked her to participate in the film, he supports her in her choice.
I would love for her to be part of it. A movie Scream without Sidney, it’s a shame, but I understand his decision. It’s all business, they have to find a balance to respect a budget and produce the film. I understand, but she’s still alive! She definitely will be in future movies, but I think it’s up to the fans to ask for that in the future.
David Arquette therefore keeps an open door (in place of Neve Campbell). Unless Scream 6 teaches us bad news, the character of Sidney should be alive in this feature film. And if other films are made, and the production decides to pay her enough, maybe we will revere Neve Campbell in the saga. But as Dewey’s interpreter points out, all of this is a business. But if enough fans speak up, no doubt the producers will act on it.
