In the credits of “Sauver Lisa” on M6, Cristiana Reali returns for us on the set of the series and her collaboration with Caroline Anglade, Capucine Sainson-Fabresse, and Yann Samuell. And discusses his projects, including the upcoming season 12 of “Clem”.
DashFUN: What did you like about Saving Lisa when you were offered the role of Diane Keller?
Cristiana Reali : The scenario above all. I found this story to be extremely effective and engaging. I really wanted to be a part of it. I said to myself “Hey, I want to see this series on the screen”. And then I really liked this feminine, maternal and filial world. Family stories touch me, it’s pretty universal.
Have you seen the Japanese series Mother, of which Saving Lisa is an adaptation?
I saw only one episode, which I really liked, although it is very different. But I didn’t want to continue so as not to be influenced by my playing. However, it was still important for me to see what the original series looked like, in order to understand why we were adapting it. And like I said, it’s a very strong, very universal family story.
But in the end the two series have little to do with each other. Mother is very Japanese, very black, very slow.
You had already played in The Red Bracelets, which was an adaptation of a Spanish series. Do you still hesitate a bit before embarking on a remake?
It actually depends on the remake. In the case of Mother or the Red Bracelets, these series are not known in France, so I don’t find it a problem to adapt them, on the contrary. But if I was offered a Friends or Desperate Housewives remake, it would be different (laughs).
Was filming with Yann Samuell, who directs Saving Lisa, an important motivation for you? Were you familiar with his work?
Yes, I remember that the first film I saw of him was Children’s Games, and I loved it, like a lot of people I think. And I had shot with his wife, who is an actress, which allowed me to meet him because he came from time to time on the set. I already liked his personality a lot.
And there, on Saving Lisa, I loved working with him, it’s a very nice meeting. I appreciated the freedom he gave me on the set. A director sets the scene for the atmosphere on a stage. And there he was surrounded by lots of dynamic women, so there was a great atmosphere.
And he also handles children very well, because he is used to making films with children. Little Capucine was very confident, I think, thanks to him, when she had things that were really not easy to play. Yann gave a very nice color to this shoot.
We feel a very beautiful chemistry between your playing partners and you in the series. Was it immediate on set?
Yes, from reading it, it was obvious to all of us. Everyone admired the others a little already. And I think that good atmosphere was largely due to Caroline Anglade, who is always very happy, who is dynamic, and who puts everyone at ease immediately. When the pillars, like Caroline or Yann Samuell, are enveloping people, things always go well.
The little Capucine Sainson-Fabresse is amazing. How was the work with her?
Very well. Of course, it was mostly Caroline who worked with her, because they had a lot of sequences together. But what I found great was that Capucine was very surrounded in the comedy, apart from the takes. She was laughing, she was messing around with the boys. Foëd Amara and Oscar Copp in particular, they were very patient with her. And Oscar, who plays the villain, was so embarrassed to have to shoot difficult scenes with her that he did everything to have a good laugh with her.
Between scenes, it was rather necessary to calm her down actually, because she wanted to make jokes all the time (laughs). But it’s great because, in this way, she didn’t feel too much the heaviness of the very dramatic sequences she had to play.
In a few months, we will see you again on TF1 in season 12 of Clem. Was it obvious for you to accept this colorful role of Nathalie when the channel offered it to you two years ago, at the time of season 10?
Ah, yes, really. I accepted for two reasons. Firstly, because I really liked the role of Nathalie. I had done a lot of dramatic roles and wanted something more fun. A somewhat free woman, big mouthed, who fucks guys (laughs). And also because I …
