Who is Sauron? Where is Sauron? And why haven’t we seen him in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power when he’s such a pivotal part of the story? Because the big villain of the “Lord of the Rings” series has so far been conspicuous by its absence, there are various fan theories according to which one of the established characters (halbrand, the stranger, etc.) should actually be Sauron. So those responsible for the series have successfully built up a big mystery – but the resolution is apparently imminent.
Amazon has published a trailer that promises Sauron’s first real appearance after the mini-scene in the prologue (see title picture). Then not only does the trailer carry the tagline “Evil reveals itself,” we also hear a voice whispering, “You will at last be known for who you really are, my lord Sauron.”
And the Sauron revelation may even come in Episode 6: The trailer was released after Episode 5 aired on September 23rd and also includes a snippet of Adar’s (Joseph Mawle) speech, which is also included in the official trailer for The Rings of Power Episode 6. Therefore, the suspicion is obvious that this is also a trailer for Episode 6.
However, the situation is not very clear, the trailer could just as easily be a preview of the remaining three episodes of the first season “The Rings of Power”. At least it seems clear that Sauron should still have his big appearance in season 1 – good news for the fans.
The big question that remains is whether one of the already established characters turns out to be Sauron-in-disguise or whether the sinister villain simply hasn’t been seen yet.
The second possibility now seems more likely to us, because we can’t really imagine Halbrand, the Stranger, or any of the other characters (a few possible candidates are also shown briefly in the trailer above) still turning out to be Sauron. The characters have simply developed too much in a different direction for that and a Sauron twist would not be compatible with the books by JRR Tolkien.
On the other hand, it could of course also seem a bit strange if Sauron didn’t appear at all for five episodes and then suddenly appeared out of nowhere in episode 6. The good thing is: We’ll be smarter very soon. “The Rings of PowerEpisode 6 will be released on September 30, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video.
