The “Santa Clause” franchise continues as a miniseries on Disney Plus, with Tim Allen reprising the role of Scott Calvin, Variety reported. In the series, Scott Calvin is on the verge of his 65th birthday and realizes he can’t be Santa Claus forever. Santa is starting to lose a foothold in his duties, and more importantly, he has a family that could benefit from a life in the normal world.
Delighting numerous elves, children, and families, Scott sets out to find a suitable Santa as he prepares his family for a new adventure south of the arctic. This will be Allen’s fourth production as Calvin/Santa. He first appeared in the movie “Santa Clause” in 1994, followed by two sequels in 2002 and 2006. Jack Burditt, creator of Allen’s comedy series “Last Man Standing,” will serve as executive producer and showrunner for “The Santa Clause.”
Allen will executive produce alongside the lead role. Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina will also serve as executive producers. The Disney Branded Television series will be produced by 20th Television. The production of the series will begin in March. In addition to his role in the “Santa Clause” franchise, Allen is best known for voicing Buzz Lightyear in the “Toy Story” movies and starring in ABC’s hit comedy series “Home Improvement.”
Other movie roles include “Galaxy Quest”, “Wild Hogs”, “Jungle 2 Jungle” and “The Shaggy Dog”. He most recently starred in “Last Man Standing,” which aired for six seasons on ABC and three more seasons on Fox. The show aired its series finale in May 2021.
