The Netflix series “Sandman” has just unveiled its first teaser. Adapted from the eponymous comic book, this show acts as a small revolution. Indeed, the graphic novel is a huge reference, very difficult to adapt.
Who is Sandman?
Initially, Sandman is an iconic character in the comic book universe. He is the main character of an eponymous series created in 1989 by Neil Gaiman. The latter put an end to his story in 1996. Since then, other authors have taken over through additional stories. With Sandman, the author stands out from many other comics through a darker, more violent, more mature and above all much deeper treatment than the products offered by Marvel and DC Comics. Basically, Sandman is an independent comic book, now owned by DC Comics.
The protagonist, referred to as Dream, is an ambiguous and practically omnipotent anti-hero. The very embodiment of dreams and nightmare, he was held prisoner for centuries by mortals before finally regaining his freedom to restore order in his kingdom. Sandman has encountered many attempts to adapt, but it is ultimately Netflix which takes the plunge by offering a series in live version.
An intriguing first trailer
It’s Allan Heinberg, notably screenwriter on the first film Wonder woman, who takes care of this first season of Sandman. A first warm-up lap which will include 11 episodes. Casting side, it is Tom Sturridge who will play the famous Dream. The rest of the cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Gwendoline Christie, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Patton Oswalt and Charles Dance. Sandman does not yet have a specific release date but is expected to land on Netflix in early 2022.

The first trailer plays the mystery card by revealing only a few images, this first teaser seems to be set in the past and tells the story of how Dream was brought back to the living world, at least in our reality. We just hope that the show will manage to pay tribute to the scope of comics, and especially to its disproportionate ambition. Logically, according to previous information shared by Netflix, the show should follow the story of Preludes and Nocturnes released in 1989. In any case, the aesthetic of the series seems a little weak to remain faithful to the visual beauty of the comics, or in any case to claim to be at the height of the original work …

The vocal show offers an incredible cast including Kat Dennings, Michael Sheen, Taron Egerton, Andy Serkis and Riz Ahmed. Sandman the audio series has been available since July 15th.
