After “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, many fans of the Marvel hero now want both “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” with Andrew Garfield and “Spider-Man 4” with Tobey Maguire. “Doctor Strange 2” director Sam Raimi has commented on the latter.
With their “Spider-Man” trilogy, “Evil Dead” mastermind Sam Raimi and leading actor Tobey Maguire heaved the wall-crawler onto the big screen for the first time in the early 2000s and also laid an important foundation for the modern comic blockbuster. And after the controversial “Spider-Man 3”, “Spider-Man 4” was actually already planned.
However, since Raimi was dissatisfied with the scripts and the planned schedule, the project was finally buried – and the series was rebooted with “The Amazing Spider-Man” and the new Spidey Andrew Garfield. And in the end, it was very similar, after “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” there were at least two more sequels with Garfield, which ultimately fizzled out.
The sensation was all the greater when both Maguire and Garfield celebrated a brilliant comeback at the end of 2021 in the MCU multiverse adventure “Spider-Man: No Way Home” alongside the third cinema Spider-Man Tom Holland. It was so well received that many Marvel fans are now also loudly demanding the once-planned sequels “Spider-Man 4” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” in addition to Tom Holland’s next Spidey appearance.
Since then, the rumor mill has been bubbling about the two alleged projects. Recently, it was even rumored that the green light for “Spider-Man 4” with Maguire had long been given internally, which Sam Raimi was allowed to implement according to his own ideas from back then. And that’s exactly what Raimi has been pulled from the site ahead of his own MCU adventure Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness (theatrical release May 4, 2022). fandango addressed. Although Raimi’s statements make it clear that the rumor in question is probably not true, since he has not yet known about any plans for “Spider-Man 4”, he does not want to rule out the sequel…
That’s what Sam Raimi says about “Spider-Man 4”
In an interview with fandango, Raimi explained that after working on Doctor Strange 2 he realized that the Marvel Universe has no limits: “I think anything is possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in it right now. […] I didn’t really follow that. But it sounds wonderful.”
So Sam Raimi would definitely like a fourth “Spider-Man” movie with Tobey Maguire, even if he doesn’t seem to know anything about how likely such a movie really is. At the latest after this expression of interest, the chances should actually not be that bad. In the video below, DashFUN video producer and comic expert Sebastian explains what a sequel to his “Spider-Man” trilogy could look like:
But even if there were neither Spider-Man 4 nor The Amazing Spider-Man 3, it’s still possible that we’ll see the two Tom Holland predecessors again in another film, maybe one other MCU adventure, or in the largely independent Marvel film universe that Sony is currently building with anti-heroes from the “Spider-Man” cosmos (but still without Spidey himself).
Venom (Tom Hardy), Morbius (Jared Leto), and Co. are supposed to meet Spider-Man sooner or later. And with Tom Holland remaining in the MCU, Garfield or Maguire could be possible candidates here. As Sam Raimi rightly says, the possibilities are now endless in the Marvel Multiverse…
