In 2009, filmmaker Frédéric Berthe brought together Kad Merad and Mélanie Doutey for a crazy comedy: “RTT”. But did you know that during the filming of the film, there was a serious accident during a rather complex sequence to film?

In 2009, after working on the series Hand after staging alive and Our 18 years, filmmaker Frédéric Berthe is back with a new comedy: RTT. Worn by Kad Merad, Mélanie Doutey, Manu Payet or even Géraldine Nakache, the film tells the crazy story of Arthur (Kad Merad). The latter decides to follow his ex-girlfriend to Miami when she is going to marry another man than him. At the airport, he crosses paths with Émilie (Mélanie Doutey), who has just rob a museum to steal a priceless work of art. She then decides to put the painting in Arthur’s bag to go through customs at the airport. The two characters will never leave each other for a colorful American adventure.
Despite mostly negative reviews, RTT does more than1 million admissions on French soil and more than 9 million dollars in revenue at the international box office. RTT was also an opportunity for Mélanie Doutey to turn to the world of French comedy. Accustomed to more intimate films, this one allows her to try out another kind of cinema. Nevertheless, the actress has followed a real training to enter the skin of this art thief. In any case, this is what the actress said at the microphone of DH/Sports :
I had three months of coaching, then training with a kung fu champion. You still have to be believable. Manu Payet and I were terrified of touching each other, of making the wrong move. Fight scenes are not cheating…
A training that was not enough to avoid an accident that almost turned tragic.
An air boat accident
In RTT, Frédéric Berthe directs a muscular chase in air boats in the Everglades in Florida. Mélanie Doutey and Kad Merad thus find themselves aboard these hovercraft which allow them to crisscross these emblematic marshes of Florida. Except that a terrible accident occurred during the filming of this sequenceas Mélanie Doutey said:
I was supposed to be driving it, but I had only taken 10 minutes of training the day before, to give the illusion, and it was a man under my seat who was steering the boat. We hit a tree and it was pretty bad. Kad had a cracked rib and I had a gash in the tibia. When an accident happens, we think of nothing: we suffer. But the fear especially invaded us when we saw the panic of the team.
Especially since the place was infested with alligators. For a bit, RTT turned into Crawl. Like what, even the filming of a comedy can be dangerous. Fortunately, it’s an anecdote that ended relatively well for the two French stars…
