Sylvester Stallone has just unveiled the trailer for his director’s cut of “Rocky IV”. Like Zack Snyder with “Justice League”, the filmmaker decides to offer his fans a new version of the fourth film in the “Rocky” franchise.
Rocky: the role of a lifetime
The actor and director Sylvester Stallone owes Rocky absolutely everything. In 1977, when he encountered unprecedented financial problems, he wrote the screenplay for Rocky. He offers this story to Chartoff-Winkler Productions for a pittance. His only requirement is to have the leading role. The film is an international box, wins three Oscars (Best Film, Best Director for John G. Avildsen, and Best Editing) on his 9 nominations and bring back more than $ 117 million in box office revenue.
A success that definitely changes the life of Sylvester Stallone. The latter then goes on Rambo, and will come back in all the suites of Rocky. In all, eight films will be released, the last of which dates back to 2018.
Rocky iv : New version
In 1985, building on the success of previous opus, Sylvester Stallone directs himself Rocky iv. An important episode in the license since it tells the death of his friend Apollo Creed. Unfortunately, the film received a very poor reception from professional critics, despite a score of $ 300 million in box office revenue. At the time, this fourth film was the biggest economic success of the license, and one of the sports dramas the most profitable of all time. However, faced with this critical failure, Sylvester Stallone decided to resume his work for sign a new version. Thirty-five years after the film’s release, Sly is redesigning his feature film by notably delivering 40 minutes of unpublished images. The fight scenes are more intense, the music more powerful and the dramatic springs are heightened.



To celebrate this new vision, MGM is partnering with Fathom Events to set up nationwide screenings, giving fans the opportunity to be among the first to see this brand new release. Now that the movie is over, MGM has just published a first trailer of the project. New, more muscular images that echo to the rhythm of the cult music of the saga: Eye of the tiger.
