Rodriguez will direct the “Spy Kids” series, which will be rebooted by Netflix.
Robert Rodriguez, the director of iconic movies such as “Desperado”, “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”, “Sin City”, “From Sunset to Dawn”, returns with a new adaptation of the unforgettable action comedy “Spy Kids” series.
The series, for which Netflix and Skydance have acquired the rights, will reboot with an original story and Robert Rodriguez will direct. The “Spy Kids” series, which started in 2001, ended in 2003 with “Spy Kids 3: Game Over”. After this original trilogy, Robert Rodriguez made the movie “Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World” in 2011, attempting to continue the adventure without most of the names in the original cast, but the movie did not receive a passing grade from the audience.
Robert Rodriguez, who wrote the scripts of the original films, will also write the script for the Netflix adaptation himself. This will be Rodriguez’s second family movie for Netflix, following the 2020 movie “We Can Be Heroes”.
It is not yet known which names will star in this remake of the original “Spy Kids” films starring Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alan Cumming, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Tony Shalhoub, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, Emily Osment, and Matt O’Leary.
