In the upcoming Marvel series Secret Invasion, evil Skrulls have invaded the earth and are posing as humans. And one particularly significant Skrull appears to be played by “Game Of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke: Anchor.
Two Game Of Thrones stars have just joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Eternals: Richard “Robb Stark” Madden as Ikaris and Kit “Jon Snow” Harington as Dane Whitman-turned-superhero Black Knight should. But they’re not the only ones: Emilia Clarke – known as Daenerys Targaryen from “Game Of Thrones” – will soon be part of the Marvel Universe. And now her role has apparently been leaked.
Then Emilia Clarke probably plays a character in the MCU series “Secret Invasion” that is also known from the Marvel comics: Anchor is a princess from the extraterrestrial race of the Skrullswho becomes their leader and launches the secret invasion of Earth, after which both the original comic series and the series based on it are named.
A picture of Veranke (along with a snapshot of Emilia Clarke during the shoot) can be found in the post by MyTimeToShineHellowhich has proven to be a very reliable source for revelations about Marvel and DC projects:
This is Secret Invasion
The Skrulls are shapeshifters and can take on any shape, which also explains why Clarke doesn’t have green skin and pointy ears in the pictures from the set. So we see them here in their human form.
In the MCU, we already know the Skrulls from Captain Marvel, where they were shown as kindhearted, misunderstood aliens on the run from the evil Kree. In Marvel Comics, however, the Skrulls are primarily evil and have repeatedly infiltrated the earth, even replacing certain superheroes.
We’ll likely see in the Secret Invasion series that some not-so-nice Skrulls have wormed their way into positions of power on Earth.
But whether certain superheroes will also be revealed as Skrulls remains to be seen. In the comics, the anchor poses as superhero Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman. However, the rights to this character – like all other characters from the Spider-Man environment – are owned by Studio Sony, who probably have their own plans with the character.
It’s pretty safe to say that Emilia Clarke as Anke is on the side of the bad guys. She then faces Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and a host of other established MCU characters: ex-SHIELD agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), CIA agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), James Rhodes aka War Machine (Don Cheadle), and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the leader of the good Skrulls.
Secret Invasion is still filming and is expected to release on Disney+ in late 2022 or early 2023.
