Released this Wednesday, November 24 in our theaters, the film reboot of “Resident Evil” has obviously a continuation in the ideas, if one relies on its post-generic scene and the character it introduces.
WARNING – The article below contains spoilers for the outcome of “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” as well as its post-credits scene. So please go your way if you have not yet seen the movie reboot of the video game saga.
When there’s more, there’s more ! For more than a decade, this has been the credo of the majority of blockbusters, which add bonus scenes during or after the credits. It’s even one of the hallmarks of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is doing it today.
Halfway through the credits, we find Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper). Shot while threatening young Sherry Birkin (Holly de Barros) to seize the virus, the former STARS member wakes up in a body bag, astonished to come back to life. Thanks to his mysterious informant, whose face we finally discover: a certain Ada Wong (Lily Gao), who claims to have been forced to resuscitate him and says she has big plans for him.

Ada Wong in the video game remake of “Resident Evil 2”
To know which ones, we will probably have to wait for a possible sequel. But the presence of the young woman can already give some indications. Appeared in the second game of the franchise, in the scenario of Leon, Ada Wong is a spy who has her own agenda and offers her services to different organizations, with the aim of harming Umbrella Corporation. By stealing one of their viruses, for example.
In this regard, Johannes Roberts’ film follows in the footsteps of its model. But he reverses the dynamic between Ada and Wesker: in games, it is indeed he who recruits her, and not the other way around. And the duo intervenes in the scenario of several games thereafter. Including the 4, which sends Leon to a village in Europe, to save the daughter of the President of the United States, kidnapped by a local sect.
While we thought she was dead in the second game (and despite a cameo in the 3, which takes place on the same temporality), we find her on the sidelines of the main story, mandated by Wesker to recover, not a virus , but the Plagas. Parasites thousands of years old that control the human hosts they take possession of.
FRIEND ? ENEMY? THE TWO ?
We must then wait until 2012 to find it. And rather three times than one: it signs indeed its first appearance, in flesh and blood, in Resident Evil Retribution of Paul WS Anderson, under the features of Li Bingbing. It is also found in the animated feature Damnation. And in the sixth game of the franchise, whose plot consists of four distinct segments, thus bringing together several iconic characters within the same title.
Without Wesker (killed in the previous episode) and without much surprise either, we find her in Leon’s part. And she once again fakes her death before reappearing, for what constitutes, to date, her last participation in a game, if we exclude the remake of “Resident Evil 2” released in 2019.
The possibilities are not lacking if the saga were to continue by integrating the character of Ada Wong, the femme fatale of the franchise not excellence. It remains to be seen if a sequel will see the light of day. And what game (s) it will be inspired by.
