A major generational change is currently taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is the new Black Widow, Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) has trained Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and will soon be entering She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany ) and Iron Man’s successor Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) entered the scene.
The suspicion is therefore obvious that a baton or hammer handover is also on the agenda in Asgard: Chris Hemsworth occurs after “Thor 4: Love And Thunder” as the previous one Thor and will be replaced by Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman.
That’s how it was in the Marvel Comics, after all, where Thor eventually proved unworthy, had to relinquish his hammer Mjölnir and henceforth was known as Odinsson, while Jane Foster as Mighty Thor followed in his footsteps. But that’s obviously not the plan for the MCU – at least so far “Thor 3” and “Thor 4” director Taika Waititi knows.

In the current issue of the magazine totally movie (via games radar) Waititi talked about “Love And Thunder” and also went into the follow-up topic: “Thor Stormbreaker has this big axe, but now his hammer is back and being wielded by someone else. It’s not his hammer anymore. The idea is for someone to take their place.”
“I think a lot of fans might assume that this is a handover of the baton. I don’t know Marvel’s future plans, but I don’t think that’s the case.”
It remains to be seen what role Jane Foster will play in the future. Is there after “Thor 4: Love And Thunder” just a thunder god and goddess in the MCU? Or maybe Jane is from another universe, as some believe after the new trailer?
After all, Waititi has already revealed that the “Mighty Thor’ comics that will serve as a template for ‘Love And Thunder”. “We’re staying pretty close to Jane’s storyline and what happened to her because that’s such a big influence on this film. We try to take the best parts of it.”

Maybe that’s a hint for the future. Because in the comics, Jane Foster eventually becomes a Valkyrie. So she could revive the female warriors alongside Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) – or as her successor. The trailer for “Thor 4” shows that the two get along well.
“Thor 4: Love And Thunder” will be released in German cinemas on July 6, 2022.
