In “Renfield”, Nicholas Hoult seeks to free himself from the grip of his toxic boss, the famous Count Dracula. The film is revealed through a trailer that gives hope for a hysterical performance by the great Nicolas Cage in the skin of the vampire.
Renfield : in the service of Dracula
The myth created by Bram Stoker is apparently inexhaustible in cinema. In recent years, the head vampire has notably been entitled to a origin story with Dracula Untold or even a mini-series thought up by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, soberly titled Dracula.
In 2023, the bloodsucking prince will be back in theaters with Renfield. The new feature film by Chris McKay (Lego Batman the Movie, The Tomorrow War) benefits from the presence of Robert Kirkman – author of the comics The Walking Dead – and Ryan Ridley (rick and morty, Invincible) to the scenario.

As its title suggests, the film focuses above all on the famous servant/slave of the vampire, already embodied in the cinema by Tom Waits in Francis Ford Coppola’s version. It’s Nicholas Hoult’s turn to lend his features to the insect eater, responsible for bringing fresh meat to the count.
Eager to break free from the grip of this toxic boss, Renfield participates in group therapy but is very quickly caught up by the old demon. He also uses his powers to survive in the cruel modern world, which leads him to befriend police officer Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) after saving her life.
Nicolas Cage in great shape
Even if he only appears in the last seconds of the joyful trailer of RenfieldNicolas Cage apparently delivers a crazy new performance in the feature film, reminiscent of that ofKiss me vampire. This genius of expressionism and overplay is having a great time here and could well be the worthy successor to Bela Lugosi, Frank Langella or even Gary Oldman, bringing a comic dimension that distinguishes him from these predecessors. It only remains to hope that the film will live up to these delirious first images, and that Nicolas Cage will have a much longer presence time.

Renfield is to be discovered in cinemas from May 31, 2023.
