Rockstar Games and Remedy join forces to offer a remake of the two cults Max Payne games. A title is only available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
There’s news that quickly puts a smile on your face, like the announcement of a remake of Max Payne 1 & 2. And the best part is that this project is in the hands of the original creator’s Remedy Entertainment (Control, Alan Wake), with the agreement of Rockstar Games, which today owns the brand.
Max Payne 1 & 2 reunited in a new-gen remake
It only took one tweet announcing the remake of Max Payne 1 & 2 to ignite Twitter and blow up – for real – Remedy’s shareholder site. But it’s real, Sam Lake and his teams have approached Rockstar Games for this project as revealed by Sam Houserfounder of R*.
We were over the moon when our longtime friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games.. We’re big fans of the work Remedy has done over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new releases.
Tero VirtalaCEO of Remedy added:
Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of every member at Remedy, and we know millions of fans around the world are feeling the same way. We are extremely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games again for the chance to bring the story, action, atmosphere of the original Max Payne games to life for players in a way never before seen.
A project with an XXL budget, financed by the dads of GTA

This return will therefore not be a hasty remaster, but a remake. Yes, A remake. In its press release, Remedy specifies that this release will be in the form of a unique game developed exclusively on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with Northlight engine (Control, Quantum Break). The budget allocated to revisit Max Payne 1 & 2 will be that of a “typical Remedy production”.
Are we witnessing a real return of the license to the front of the stage? It may be that this project is there to test the waters and talk about the franchise again… as with Alan Wake. For this one, Remedy first offered a remaster and then unveiled Alan Wake 2. It is therefore quite plausible that the pattern will repeat itself once again, with why not a remake of Max Payne 3, or better, a Max Payne 4 by Remedy. But with the atmosphere of the first two cult games, please gentlemen.
How do you react to this announcement of a remake of Max Payne 1 & 2? Do you think Remedy will manage to sublimate the special atmosphere without altering it? Day one or are you “too old for this bullshit? Tell us everything in the comments.
