The production of “Rebel Moon” continues to advance. Indeed, Zack Snyder’s next film has found its main actress in the person of Sofia Boutella. An important new role for the one who has chained the big productions in recent years.

Sofia Boutella: a rising actress

Daughter of Algerian singer Safy Boutella, Sofia Boutella has been immersed in the artistic world since childhood. However, it was not through cinema that she initially gained notoriety …but rather by dancing. Indeed, she left her native Algeria at the age of 12 to join France and discovered the world of hip-hop dance. Joining the Vagabond Crew breakdance troupe, she won several dance awards that will allow her to work with major brands such as Nike or stars like Madonna, Rihanna or even Mariah Carey.

His success in dance allows him to obtain his first role in the musical film. StreetDance 2 (2012). However, It was in 2015 that Sofia Boutella definitively began her film career playing the little talkative role of Gazelle in the spy movie Kingsman: Secret Service. Her strong character in action marks the Hollywood producers who solicit the actress on other films of the same ilk: Star Trek: No Limits, The Mummy, Atomic Blonde or even Hotel Artemis. She even plays for more independent directors such as Gaspar Noé (for Climax, where she plays … a dancer) and Sono Sion (Prisoners of Ghostland).

New lead role

Today, Sofia Boutella is in the small papers of the big American studios. A great consecration for the Algerian actress who will therefore prepare for a new challenge with Zack Snyder’s new film entitled Rebel Moon.

As a reminder, this new collaboration between the director and Netflix (after Army of the dead) promises to be an awesome sci-fi movie that mixes Star wars and The Seven Samurai. Indeed, Rebel moon will take place in a peaceful colony threatened by the armies of the tyrant Balisarius. To survive, the colony then sends a young woman with a mysterious past who will be responsible for traveling through the galaxy, in order to recruit powerful warriors from the neighboring planets. Without too much surprise, Sofia Boutella will play this young woman.

Indeed, the actress auditioned to get the film scripted by Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten. According to several reports, Sofia Boutella would have impressed so much during hearing tests that Zack Snyder would have chosen him without waiting. We should therefore expect another great performance from the actress.

Busy agenda for Snyder and Boutella

If the release date of Rebel moon has not yet been communicated, Zack Snyder will however be busy on other productions in the coming months. Indeed, the director will take care of the rest ofArmy of the Dead, entitled Planet of the Dead. He will also be at the helm of two animated productions: Twilight of the Gods and Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, spin-off ofArmy of the dead. As for Sofia Boutella, after appearing this year in another sci-fi movie titled Settlers, the actress will take a little tour of the small screen with the historical series SAS: Rogue Heroes (created by Steven Knight, the dad of Peaky Blinders), which will be broadcast on British media BBC. Boutella will notably find famous names such as Jack O’Connell, Alfie Allen and Dominic West.
