The director, as well as the actors, tell us a little more:
Gold from him : Ramzy lays gold
Currently in the new Prime Video program, Celebrity Hunted, Ramzy Bedia will also star in the series Gold from him broadcast on France. TV. Consists of 10 episodes of 26 minutes, this dramedy is created, co-written and directed by Baptiste Lorber, who was notably a screenwriter for Soda. The fiction traces the story of a man, VRP of a small suburban SME whose dismal life boils down to: metro-work and failed marriage. However, one day he discovers a staggering power, he lays gold!
A completely crazy scenario, for a story firmly anchored in reality. Joseph’s life will suddenly change when he understands why he is the victim of this curse. What to do with all this gold? How do you keep this a secret? At the same time, the couple he forms with Marie, played by Olivia Côte, goes adrift and his wife finds it more and more difficult to bear it. The actor also shares the bill with Christophe Héraut, Linh Đan Phạm, Marc Riso, Vincent Solignac and Jérôme Niel. Back to our interview with part of the team during the Série Mania festival in Lille held last August during the preview screening of Gold from him :
How did this crazy idea come about?
Baptiste Lorber : Basically, it was a short film that I had written. Then, when I proposed it to Hervé Bellech, the producer, he immediately told me asked to make a series. At the time, I wrote a lot of sketches, all very crazy, so it was one idea among many in the end.
What motivated this project?
BL : There are a lot of things that are very personal to me in this project. The heart of the series is not that it lays gold, it’s a twist that I found interesting to deal with, but it is above all a love story of a couple in crisis. It’s the love of wealth or the wealth of love ultimately, that’s the story of the series. Then, of course, there is this wacky element, which is that our hero lays gold, but that’s a side subject.
Ramzy, did you immediately accept the project?
Ramzy bedia : Projects like this one, we never get them. A guy who shits gold, we never offer it to you. I was interested in it only out of curiosity. I really thought it wasn’t going to be very good, it didn’t smell good! And very quickly, I understood the tone of the thing and I said to myself: “this is a series that I will not let go”. I also wondered, why is it offered to me? (laughs) But I’m very happy, I had never had a series in the lead, and the first one I have, I shit gold! The treatment of this subject is crazy. I had no idea where we were going. Dude shits gold, okay, but above all it’s a love affair about 10 episodes and that’s what touched me.
How did the shoot go?
RB : So, this is the first time that I have so many pages to learn, 20 pages per day! But it taught me a lot of things. Now I’m no longer panicking over two or three pages of text. We were very tired in the evening, by 9pm we were all in bed. We spent a month together, whether on the set, at the hotel, we ate and slept together. It was a great adventure, we all get along well and we are all on good terms.
What was it like playing with Ramzy?
Marc Riso : I had a lot of fun! The scene where we were to act the discovery of the golden turd, where suddenly Joseph has a pressing desire, was incredible. Ramzy has this ability to play where he really doesn’t do things by halves. He had a huge vein on his forehead showing up and his eyes were bloodshot from the first take. I told myself he was going to implode. And it was exceptional! He really gives himself and it was super fun.
