More than ten years after the release of the first opus, Dreamworks is preparing to present a second part of the saga “Puss in Boots”. The feature film has even just unveiled its first trailer for a release scheduled for October 5, 2022.
Puss in Boots: a cult character from the Shrek saga
To discover the origins of Puss in Boots, we have to go back to 2004 with the release of Shrek 2. Inspired by the legend of Puss in Boots, this cute little tomcat, a sort of parody of Zorro in the universe of the green ogre, has created an instant and integral unanimity. Puss in Boots has become an iconic character of the license Dreamworks flagship. He then returned to Shrek the Third and Shrek, there was an end in an obese version, before having his own adventure in 2011: The Puss in Boots.
At the time, the film was directed by Chris Miller (The Man Behind Shrek 3) and Meet a resounding success with the press and spectators. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Feature category and brought in more than 554 million dollars in revenue for a budget of 130 million. Despite this financial success, Dreamworks never embarked on the production of a sequel, until today…
The last quest
Expected October 5, 2022, Puss in Boots 2: The Last Quest is made by Joel Crawfordthe artist behind The Croods 2. Antonio Banderas is back to dubbing the protagonist. The rest of the voice cast includes Salma Hayek and Olivia Colman, among others.
In this new adventure, Puss in Boots discovers that he has already exhausted 8 of the 9 lives he has. He, therefore, enters his last life, which he will have to lead differently if he wants to stay a little longer on this Earth. The feature film thus chooses a very interesting starting point. A way to take our hairy hero to a necessary introspection to evolve.
He will cross paths with the delicious Kitty Paws Velvet and Perro, a wandering, mangy mutt. Together, they will form an explosive team. They will have to stop the dreaded Goldilocks and his gang of the Three Bears, a real mafia family in the area.
