PSVR 2: much greater ambitions for the PS5 VR headset

A dazzling success for the PSVR 2 from its launch in 2023? In any case, Sony has huge ambitions and wants to avoid a scenario similar to that of the PS5 when it comes out.

If Sony can’t predict the future, it wants to plan ahead with its PSVR 2. Unless there’s a tidal wave, perhaps unlikely given that virtual reality is not such a buoyant market. than classic platforms, there will be something for everyone.

A big launch for PSVR 2?

Will PSVR 2 be adopted faster than PS VR 1? No one knows but there will be solid stock upon release in 2023.

According Bloomberg (via VGC), Sony’s goals for its PS5 VR headset are to have 2 million units for launch. Feasible? Currently, the production would be optimal, without problems of supply in terms of components. Expected for early 2023, the launch would also coincide with the end, or at least a strong alleviation, of the PS5 shortage. Data that seems to confirm that the helmet has been postponed for this reason.

But for it to sell, the price will have to be acceptable. If it were to exceed €599, for example, it might be complicated for the manufacturer. But with the price increase of the PlayStation 5 or the Meta Quest 2, it is better to be careful…

Sony pulls out the checkbook

For its launch, the PSVR 2 will have more than 20 games with Resident Evil Village, No Man’s Sky, Firewall Ultra, The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners 2 or even Horizon Call of the Mountain. And much more… because PlayStation intends to transform the trial by investing massively.

At this time, considerable sums are reserved for partnerships with independent and third-party developers to guarantee a significant number of attractive VR content for the launch of PSVR2. This energy, effort and money spent will continue to grow as the installed base of PlayStation VR 2 headsets also grows.
