Epic Games surprised the video game world by releasing The Matrix Awakens, an impressive tech demo that’s as playable as it is free, last week. As this demo is only offered on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, various questions about it were quick to arise. And Epic Games has answered some of them.
Are there any differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of Matrix Awakens? Could a Switch version of the technical demo have existed? Will the Matrix Awakens demo ever be released on PC? Here are some questions that were asked of Epic Games by Axios.
Indeed, the journalist Stephen Totilo recently had the opportunity to speak with Kim Libreri, the technical director of Epic Games. Regarding possible differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of Matrix Awakens, Kim Libreri replied:
There are some things that are better on one console than the other. But overall it’s pretty much the same experience.
Regarding the Xbox Series S version, Kim Libreri explains that things have been a bit more complicated. But according to him, the demo works well on the latter despite everything:
Putting things on Series S has been a little scary. But to be fair to Microsoft, it’s a pretty good experience on Series S. Obviously, this runs at a lower resolution and the guys at Digital Foundry will see that there are a few other tradeoffs.
Matrix Awakens, yes, but on Switch?
Although the answer may seem obvious, Axios could not help but mention the Switch. Can Matrix Awakens run on Nintendo Switch? This is currently not possible according to Kim Libreri:
No… But at some point we’re going to have to figure out how to create assets of this level of realism that could work on Switch. But we have to take it step by step.
Regarding the possibility of a PC release, the technical director of Epic is satisfied with a “we will see. “He explains that a release of Matrix Awakens on PC would require a lot of testing related to the different configurations available on this platform, so it would seem that interested PC gamers should not hold their breath.
Is matrix Awakens level games possible?
An impressive technical demo like Matrix Awakens makes one wonder if such a rendering could be obtained on real games. Kim Libreri says to himself ” absolutely convinced” that games will reach such a level of graphic realism on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S.
However, he recognizes that compromises will have to be made to achieve a framerate above the 30 fps of the demo. That being said, it also clarifies that some things the demo does go beyond what the developers really need. He cites for example the fact that the demo constantly simulates the entire city. Including areas that the player cannot see. The developers of a normal game could therefore use these resources differently.
Players never forget anything. Once this generation is over, they are sure to be sure to check out whether any games have managed to visually compete with the Matrix Awakens.
What do you think of these statements by Kim Libreri? Series Are you curious to see what Matrix Awakens could give on Switch? Do you believe that commercialized games will be able to reach such a level of graphics? Tell us all in the comments below.
