Last September, Sony rolled out the last major update to its PS5 operating system. Rich in new features, the latter, for example, enabled 3D Audio on normal televisions and allowed ordinary people to add an internal SSD in their console. The new PS5 firmware update just released is much less thrilling. On paper anyway.
Sony has just uploaded the PS5 firmware update 21.02-04.02.00.02. People who have not activated the automatic installation of updates can therefore download the file now. This last, weighing 913.7 MB is unfortunately not accompanied by a detailed description of its effects. As a simple description, the Japanese manufacturer once again made use of a classic:
This system software update improves system performance.
Note that PS5 firmware updates sometimes go further than what Sony publicly indicates. A few days after the release of the update 21.02-04.00.00 for example, it appeared that the latter did not add only functionalities. It was indeed discovered that the update also improved the performance of the console on certain titles.
A PS5 update that doesn’t tell us everything?
As we indicated to you then, certain games saw their framerates increase as a result of its launch. It is therefore not totally unimaginable that this version 21.02-04.02.00.02 has unsuspected effects. It should also be noted that the official PlayStation website sometimes offers detailed patch notes. When this happens, this information goes beyond the brief initial description.
That being said, the official PlayStation website page dedicated to firmware does not yet indicate the arrival of this update 21.02-04.02.00.02. To hope to learn more about it, we will therefore have to wait. And while there are hidden improvements, the scale of the previous update suggests that today’s additions are minor.
What does this vague description often used by Sony hide in your opinion? How would you like the manufacturer to go into more detail when releasing a minor update? Give us your opinion in the comments below.
